Animation is Film Festival

Animation is Film, a major animation film festival taking place October 20-22nd at the historic TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This year's inaugural event will present a highly selective slate of the best animated films from around the world, with a red carpet, filmmaker Q&As, special events, receptions, and both juried and audience awards. I wanted to bring one film in particular from this year's selection to your attention, as we think they would be of interest to your audience.

Dates

The festival will be the weekend of Friday, October 20 through Sunday, October 22, 2017

Location

Films will be screened at 6925 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, California at the TCL Chinese Theatre 6 Multiplex on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

In development for over a decade, we will be presenting the English Language Version World Premiere of Xuan Liang & Chun Zhang's Big Fish and Begonia. This mind-blowing animated feature surpasses any toon China has produced to date in terms of sheer beauty and imagery – a procession of enormous whales swim through the skies, a tentacled creature ferries a girl across a sea of clouds, feline porters walk on their hind legs – while weaving a surreal and complex tale informed by Chinese myths and motifs. Additional information on this film can be found here.

At the festival, we will be premiering some amazing animated films, hosting special events, filmmaker Q&As, cocktail parties, VR demos, etc…

Information on the full slate of films at Animation is Film, along with ticketing links and director bio's, can be found on the festival website.

A screening of the film Above the Drowning Sea, the story of the dramatic escape of European Jews from Nazi-controlled Europe to Shanghai on the eve of World War Two. Followed by a panel conversation.

Through the intervention of Chinese Consul-General Ho Feng Shan, many Jewish refugees obtained exit visa to leave Austria. Some of them went to Shanghai and others relocated elsewhere. Mr. Ho issued visas in defiance of order from the Chinese government, at the risk of his career and safety. His bravery saved thousands of lives.
